Hey everyone, finally back on DA! So sorry for the long absence but unfortunately our entire internet, cable, phone, the works has been down for what seemed like ages. XD We recently had new neighbors move in next door, and when they had a tech come out to put their stuff in they for whatever reason cut all of our wiring to the house....why I have no clue. So to make a long story short we had to wait a good week before getting a guy out and once he came he re-did all the wiring and we thought we were good to go. The minute he pulls away...neighbors loose their stuff XD So it was a giant mess of wire roulette because then on the 3rd visit the stupid techs forgot to burry the wire so our stuff went out again once it rained. >.< Ughh this has just been a long week of frustration in that area.
Anyways everything is back up and doing great, I have since the last entry have visited many and various locations to gather photography including Boca Raton, DeerField, Orlando, Fort Myers, and more. I am going to estimate that I have a good 30-35 photos that need to be uploaded and it is going to take some time. For now I will be uploading a few tonight (Friday, July 12) and from there I will be uploading a few everyday.
Want to wish everyone a very very late Happy 4th of July! My family and I spent the entire day celebrating at the ocean and later setting a few fireworks off at the house. Of course we became a little too enthusiastic with the smoke bombs and these flashing firecrackers towards the end which made things so much more fun. Everyone was enjoying the smokey strobe light affect, even the neighbors :3
Last week the family took a trip to Fort Myers to visit the Ding Darling Nature Center, Bird Rehabilitation, and also the pier to watch the sunset. I was ecstatic to see some Osprey nesting and later a pair of Bottle Nose Dolphins playing off the pier. We also saw plenty of Gopher Tortoises scattered everywhere, some even walked right along the sidewalks and trails. Unfortunately the Ding Darling Driving trail was under construction and closed so instead we visited the 6 Mile Cypress Trail. Looking back now I am glad we visited there instead because the entire 6 miles was alive with various wildlife including Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies, Otters, Gators, Golden Orb Weaver Spiders, Red Bellied Wood Peckers, and even a Giant Palm Weevil which is a crazy looking beetle that appears to have an elephant trunk.
A couple nights ago I also had the honor of attending a night time Sea Turtle walk in hopes of watching the females come onto the beach, lay their eggs and return back to the ocean. I was over joyed that we had the opportunity to watch a mama Loggerhead finish nesting and return back into the ocean. It is estimated she was at least 300lbs so a full grown adult, and I still cannot get over how the large their heads are. Fun facts about them is that they actually get their name, Loggerhead, from having a large wide head like a log. They are known for their strong beaks which are used to crush conchs and other hard shelled animals. And they are also considered the world's largest hard-shelled turtle, however they are not the largest turtle. I also was lucky enough to watch as a couple of the sea turtle specialists released 25 young Loggerhead Hatchlings into the water and it was the cutest and most amazing thing to watch them scurry quickly towards the drink. They really do make a mad dash the minute they are set on to sand. XD
Recently I have noticed birds in the area have been more active, and this could be due to the couple storms we've had lately, so I took advantage and went birding for the past 3 days. I visited various places including Green Cay, The Six Mile Cypress Trail, Gumbo Limbo, and more. I was happy to see various uncommon birds out including Crowned Night Herons (during the daytime), Least Bitterns, Swallow Tailed Kites, American Kestrels, Magnificent Frigatebirds, and more. Among the birds I was also fortunate to see tons of frogs, geckos, and even a Jesus Christ Lizard who scared me half to death.
In a couple weeks I will be taking a trip back north to Ohio, so from the 27th of July to the 4th of August I will most likely not be able to upload any photos or respond to any comments. So this is an early heads up to everyone, during my trip I hope to re-visit the various zoos including Cleveland and Akron and also the newish Aquarium in Cleveland. On top of that I possibly will be able to re-see a couple nature parks including Virginia Kendall (National Park home to various caves and cliffs) and also Hinkley which is and was my favortie place to fish for Trout, Bass, and Panfish.
Well that is just about everything so far, sorry again for being absent for quite some time. Thanks for reading and keep posted. (sorry to all my watchers who are going to be spammed with photos XD) Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend!
